I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous people who don’t need repentance.
When the Lord searches for humanity, He searches carefully. He sees each individual as truly valuable. He is not casual in His search for you, but intentional. Other versions replace the word ‘careful’ with ‘diligent’ or ‘patient’. Many times, in our sin and our disconnection from God, we feel He has given up on us. We tend to believe that, when it comes to others, He has fixed their problems, but for us we are lost without a hope. But Jesus again changes our view and redirects us to His nature and faithfulness. All through these parables He is foreshadowing the cross to the listening tax collectors and sinners. He is pointing to how diligent and full of care His search is. He isn’t turning on a little light to find us but rather the light of the cross. He isn’t doing half sweep but a full sweep. Jesus is not going to stop until He finds us.
The message is clear: if we are lost, He will find us. The message is clear: when Jesus finds us, a celebration is called and many rejoice, for we are found. His search is thorough and deliberate. He wants to restore us to our full selves, with no part of our humanity or the reflection of His glory missing.
Surrender to His search. Give in to His diligence. Say yes to His grace today and be found in His love!
