“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
He fills us with grace and truth. First this living water flushes out the lies of who we are — it cleanses us of the dirt that resides from our past and then it quenches our spiritual thirst so we realize we don’t need to be satisfied by anything else except Jesus. This has huge ramifications. We now can be a blessing in our relationships at a whole new level. Like this woman, we are no longer looking to others to satisfy something in us that only Jesus could. We are set free to pour into others and never run dry because our source is endless: His name is Jesus.
I love how this revelation impacted her. Before meeting Christ, she is timid and lonely. After encountering His love, she’s transformed into a bold witness. She immediately goes and shares what’s she’s just received. She couldn’t keep it to herself. The Good News of Jesus is too good for just me — I have to share it with others.
