Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
If I knew that He is the only thing that will truly give me what I am looking for, I’d stop going to the earthly wells that only satisfy me temporarily. I love that Jesus knew we would be wired this way and he designed us to only find satisfaction in Him. It’s like He just wanted a relationship the whole time. Sin will satisfy us temporarily but only Jesus can eternally.
Only Jesus can satisfy us eternally. It's so true.
“Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” It’s interesting that she actually didn’t want to keep coming back to that well to draw water. She didn’t want to be dissatisfied, but she didn’t necessarily know where or how to find fulfillment. I feel like that speaks of us apart from Jesus. Maybe the reason we search for satisfaction in careers, relationships, drugs, money, power, is not because we WANT to, but because we don’t necessarily know how to fill the inner thirsts and longings that we have.
Yeah, that's amazing. I feel like we are constantly taste-testing things in life until we find what we actually enjoy. It's like when you have limited options, and you HAVE to eat a specific meal not cause you really want to but that's all there really is to eat.
