The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.
I love that He brings Good News to the Poor. Seems like the two don’t typically or shouldn’t typically go hand in hand. But in His Kingdom they do. Jesus flips things around. Upside Down Kingdom. They would have never heard anything like this. Those that are poor physically, emotionally, in spirit, can find hope in the fact Jesus is concerned about them and Has Good News for them. Good news that is attached with joy. He is concerned with those who generally don’t feel they are worthy of concern.
Each exchange stands out but the one that is jumping out at me is liberty for the captives.
All of us are captive to something
All of us prisoners.
Captives to fear.
Captives to insecurity.
Captives to anxiety.
Captives to depression.
Captives to pride
Everyone is looking for freedom.
