After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.
This story about Paul and Silas in Acts 16 is so fascinating to me, because it shows the REALITY of what it means to be saved by Jesus.
That we could be the kind of church we see in Acts 16, a church of freedom because we live in the freedom of Christ. The liberty that He has proclaimed. They were imprisoned yet free and they were chained yet loosed on the inside.
So their inner freedom created a new outer reality. Liberty in Christ can never be imprisoned by this world. The language of freedom is praise!! And praise shows others who He is.
I love that Jesus releases us so that we can release others.
So that others end up being free as well!! Amen!!
