Jesus called Himself the Light of the world and then turned and said to His disciples, “you are the light of the world.” Jesus was the forerunner, the pioneer, the prototype of the new creation, so He ignited the light of the new creation world when He walked the earth. He stoked the fire of love, humility and unity—the very Light He came to be. And then, when He was preparing to go to the Cross and put an end to the old creation, He told His disciples “you, too, are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” He brought us in, to participate in His mission to be the light of the world.
