“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.”” Romans 8:15

CHILDREN OF THE KING // Tara Mikes

We have a human problem with reception. So often we cannot get ourselves to accept a compliment, a favor, a handout, an unexpected gift. When we cannot find in ourselves a valid justification for the blessing, we tell ourselves that we are not worthy of the blessing. So we start acting in ways to achieve more worth; we lie to exaggerate our accomplishments, we hold onto relationships that are corroding our hearts, we overwork, we focus on ourselves. When we work to accomplish security and worth on our own, we are saying that what Jesus did on the cross was not enough. Something besides Jesus Christ is our functional savior. Something besides Jesus Christ is what tells us if we are worthy of love and respect.

But we don't need that because we already have it

The Holy Spirit is an assurance of our sonship. If we know that we are the sons and daughters of a king - a birthright given to us that can never be revoked - we will never question our worthiness. For the knowing heirs of a great fortune are raised with an ingrained understanding that they are worthy to possess all of the treasures that are promised them. The way that we wither any sin is by reminding ourselves everyday what our parentage is, and what has been promised to us by our Father. We have to submerge ourselves in the Holy Spirit, be filled with it, and we will live through the glory and worthiness of an heir to the King.
