A NEW WARDROBE // KALEIGH STEINORTH
“Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything - and I do mean everything - connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life - a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces His character in you.” Ephesians 4:22-24
I have one shirt I like to call my “emotional support flannel.” It is extremely soft and comfortable and if I could be wearing that thing at every moment of every day, I probably would. It’s my go-to — my little sister once sent me a text and asked me if I was “ever not wearing it.” However, I have a job that requires me to dress like a business person and my friends and family would grow worried about me if I did not switch it out for any of the other clothes in my closet, so occasionally I have to take off the old and find something new to wear.
God wants to do something similar with our lives. When we made a choice to follow Christ and fix our vision on Him, we made a choice to begin a new way of life. In order to put on all God has in store for us — new thought patterns, new actions, new habits, new beliefs — we must cast the old aside and put on our new God-fashioned outfit. It would be weird if I wore my flannel shirt underneath my suit to work. In order for God to dress you in your new nature, you have to be willing to peel off the old rags and put on something different. It might not be as comfortable at first, and it will not be what you’re used to, but God has designed this special outfit to fashion you into how He sees you. Let us take off the old and put on the new.
