"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

// Matthew 10:28

In this world, it often seems like we value our bodies more than we value our souls. We look after our bodies so we can live a long, healthy life here on earth, but it’s our souls that will go on living the longest. Our souls are eternal, and they’re incredibly valuable.

I live in a neighborhood where every restaurant has an organic, gluten free, dairy free, vegan alternative! I love it because I live completely gluten, dairy and refined sugar free! But whilst there are lots of detoxed, organic bodies walking around the place, it’s easy to forget about and neglect the condition of our soul. We can work so hard at fixing the physical that we have no time or energy left for the invisible, most valuable part of our being – our soul. What seems to be healthy on the outside can often be sick or starving on the inside.

The body encases the soul; it’s so valuable that it’s hidden. But Christ sees it and you and I are called to see it too. To see beyond the physical is a rare and powerful gift that has been entrusted to us as believers, enabling us to be His hands and feet in our neighborhoods – organic or not.

Today let’s choose to focus on what we don’t see with our natural eyes. Let’s instead see with our spiritual eyes.
