"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."
// Colossians 3:1-2
We have a daily opportunity to choose who and what we admire and worship. This verse in Colossians is simply saying, what I choose to seek and worship is what I admire and love most.
This is not a one-time question but a daily battle within, to decide to whom or what I give my attention. It’s either the things of this earth or the things of God.
I have learned that what I seek is ultimately where I am trying to find satisfaction and joy. The truth is, there is only one place for true fulfilling joy. I believe wholeheartedly that this is what Paul is trying to convey in these two verses.
Because we are His children, the death He died on the cross means we don’t need to worry or be anxious about the things of earth, but rather we can be satisfied with the joy of heaven. That alone is reason enough to worship a God who is everlasting and faithful!
We must ask ourselves daily: who am I seeking? Where is my joy coming from? When I am stressed or fearful, are my eyes set on Jesus or on this world? The beautiful thing is, when we seek joy in Jesus, it is the only thing that gives back in response to what we give. We must make heavenly worship our scope and aim!
