"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."
// Isaiah 26:3
Have you ever been talking to someone and your mind is anywhere but focused on that person? Or have you been on the receiving end, where you were talking to someone and they focused everywhere but on you?
I have found that those kind of conversations never produce much; such conversations benefit no one. The opportunity for both people to benefit was there, it's just that each person’s mind was elsewhere. I wonder what has been missed in our relationships, because our mind was not engaged with what could've been said. How much potential - to draw out through engaged questioning and expectation - been lost?
The mind without focus is like a river without a riverbed, for little comes of all that potential. It doesn't matter how much water flows through that river, without banks and boundaries it will be pointless and even damaging to the land surrounding it.
God is trying to give us something so powerful, so loving, so freeing, so releasing and so beautiful, but no matter how much He pours out, the effects upon our mind and lives are hindered when we are focused on everything but Him.
We are 'stayed' on our phones, our media, our comparisons, our fears, our desires, our flesh, our worries and our success. Yet none of these produce the peace our mind craves, and for which it was created.
Our mind was not designed for worry, but it was created for peace. It was created to stay on Him. When our mind is centered on Him, we realize we can trust Him, and trust unlocks a perfect peace. This peace, like a river, then brings life to our whole being, simply because our mind is stayed on Him, the Everlasting Rock.
Today I pray we would draw upon the full benefits available to us from a relationship with our Lord and Savior, as we fix our mind upon Jesus Christ.
Stay, don't wander.
Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:4
