“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

// Matthew 5:16

From my past employment experience as a Manager and in the position I currently hold, I have learned to place my trust in God’s ability, rather than my own, to see the results He wants. I believe that we are called to be faithful and God is responsible for the outcome.

Around four months ago I packed my bags and left Australia, headed for the Big Apple. Within a couple of months I had received a wonderful job and a visa! The past few months in America have been challenging and exciting. There were times when I felt uncertain, but I always knew that God had a greater plan and vision.

When I first started at my new job here, I had a number of issues with staff and communication between departments, and my boss was exhausted from not having the right support. One particular day my boss was extremely stressed and he decided to vent to me, as he does. I knew I had a choice, to either take offense and put on all that weight, or to be a problem solver, stepping in, trusting God and making an effort to lightening his worry load.

So every day before I go to work, I still my heart and boldly, confidently say to God that I will be faithful in working hard and walking in light. Through that private time with God, I can feel him give me the grace to move through the day. My goal every day is to be a light in my workplace, to stand out by going the extra mile and as a result to lighten the loads of those around me.

Matthew 11:30 says“For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

May we begin to be a light in our workplaces by lightening each other's burdens and, through that, giving others the opportunity to experience the bearer of light, Jesus.
