THE SHAPE OF OUR HEARTS

Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

// Psalm 37:4

When I first read this verse I didn’t know that I would find hidden treasure in it. I saw this verse and thought if I did this simple thing, which is to delight myself in Him, that Jesus would give me everything I had ever dreamed of or wanted in life.

I had no idea that by delighting myself in the Lord, my heart’s desires would be reshaped by His desires, and that by fixing my eyes on Him, He would transform the way I saw life entirely.

He invites us to see everything now from His perspective. We can now find ourselves in perfect peace and start to understand what we were truly made to do: to worship God for all our days in and through everything we do.

When He reshapes the desires of our hearts with His own heart’s desires, He sets us up daily to learn how to truly live out Matthew 22:36-40, which commands us to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

His desire for us to love Him, others, and ourselves, becomes our hearts’ deepest desires too. Delight yourself in Him so that He can reshape your heart.
