“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give,  only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”

// Proverbs 11:24-25

Most of us have heard this announcement on the subway, “Generosity is contagious and it begins with you.” It makes me giggle every time I hear it, but it is so true -- and yet why do so many people ignore it? I have never heard of anyone who regretted being generous.

Generosity is attractive and like the MTA says, it’s contagious. But more so than being contagious, it enriches the one who gives freely. This does not make sense to the world. If we hold on to what we think we need, then we’ll always suffer with want. But He is all we need. And yet He knows the desires of our heart. This seems like a contradiction and in human logic it is. Generosity is not logical. It is a kingdom principle and requires faith. We are human and need to be reminded everyday “that it begins with us.”

Generosity is a decision and has the potential of changing someone’s situation, someone’s heart, someone’s life … even yours.
